So, apparently, I'm a little bit friendly, slightly curious, but mostly arrogant and energetic. Should I take offense to that?

Besides, it's wrong. I'm never that energetic. ;)

Smell the nostalgia. ::sneeze::

My parents gave me a big box of stuff--junk, mainly--that they claimed was "mine" and that I needed to take back to my apartment. Which is fine with me, because it makes no difference where it goes--most of it is going into the trash anyway.

Started digging through and realized it's not all junk. My old Samantha doll was in there.

Come on, hands up. Who remembers the original three American Girl dolls?

::silence::

Okay, maybe just me. But still. I think I got that doll for Christmas back in 1988.

I loved that doll.

I'm going to fix it up and keep it for any potential daughter I might produce (hah, the chances of THAT are slim to none) or, more likely, a niece or other young relative in years to come. Throwing it away is out of the question.

What's that sound? Oh, yes, that would be my childhood rushing in upon me . . .

::brushes the doll's hair blissfully::

Okay, in an attempt to be more regular about posting, the daily news:

For Monday, March 22, 2004 . . .

The Good News: I had my yearly evaluation today (hello, Stress City), and it went well. My manager had nothing bad to say, had lots of good things to say, and gave me a substantial raise. So, yippee for extra money.

Also, I think I've lost a little bit of weight, and I haven't even been dieting. Go me.

I can see the floor in my bedroom now. ::looks around:: Well, most of it, anyway.

The Bad News: No bad news yet. I think I'll take my good news and run with it while I can.

::grabs the pay raise and runs::

I have returned. ::falls down::

They weren't TOO awful. Demanding, whining, dependent, and immature, yes--but they're only kids, after all. Just--don't ask me to do that again tomorrow. Or next week. Or in the next few months, even. I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Phrases that I could go the rest of my life never hearing again and be the better for it:

* "When are we going to eat?"

* "Where are we going to eat?"

* "What are we going to eat?"

* . . . all similar questions related to food

* "What movie are we watching?"

* "Can you turn the sound up?"

* "What are we going to do NOW?"

* "When are we going to stop?"

* "Where are we?"

* "When are we going to get there?"

* "How much longer until we get there?"

* . . . all similar questions relating to time and/or place

* Any question that comes out of Madalyn's mouth (never known a more irritating/demanding/co-dependent child that's over the age of five)

* The word "dare" ("I dare ya" "I double dare ya" "I triple-dog dare ya . . .")

And I'll think of more later. ;)

Now I'm going to lie down. I may not get up again until April. Don't send search parties. They'll only wake me up.

Going awaaaaaaay . . .

Just a little hote to let anyone who happens to care know that I won't be around this weekend. I get to spend the weekend in Atlanta with forty 10-12 year old children. Lucky me.

I'll be back Sunday night, though. Have a good weekend, everyone!

Cold pills are nice, too. ::dances groggily around in a circle:: Wheeeee!

Lessons learned today.

1. Driving to Birmingham and back for a seminar for work is not fun. Driving home from Birmingham in rush-hour traffic is especially not fun.

2. Microsoft gives crap directions. This is my daily dose of wisdom for you all. Repeat after me--Microsoft gives crap directions. I will not rely on Microsoft websites for road directions ever again.

3. Sitting in a movie theater for (almost) four hours while watching a movie (Return of the King) is not the same as sitting in a movie theater for (almost) four hours attending a software seminar. Bring on the orcs.

4. When the cable modem won't work, before calling Comcast technical support and dealing with their interminable touch-tone menu system, try unplugging the power and letting the thing reset itself. It saves time.

I go to bed tonight wiser than I got up this morning. ::bows::

And, I redesigned my journal somewhat, with a new background image. No, a third-grader didn't draw that. I did. I know it LOOKS like a third-grader's work, but that's because I have no artistic talent and never did. :) Switching tactics completely this time . . . Pimpernel! Whee!

It's like a theatrical trailer or something . . .

Okay--it's not an "official" opening or anything, and it's not much of a sneak peek either, but my new and first ever website with its own domain (andbutsotherefore.com) at least has a few of my crudely-attempted music videos on it. They're Sam/Harry and Sam/Martouf--go and download, if you like. If you don't like, well, I can't help you there. Perhaps group therapy? ;)

Current Mood: accomplished accomplished
Jen [userpic]

I swear, if those people next door don't stop yelling at each other soon, someone will be paying for therapy.

Holiday wishes

Considering that I won't be around for the next three nights due to an extended session of "let's see how many relatives we can visit for the holiday", I would just like to say to everybody . . .

Merry Christmas.

Happy Chanukah.

Etc., etc.

Whatever holidays you celebrate, may you have happy ones.

::throws candy and cookies and Christmas favors to all::

Oh--and a happy New Year. :)

Current Mood: festive

Ugh. Sick. So sick.

I hope (really hope) it's not what it feels like, which is strep. Blech.

Home, obviously. Don't know how much I'm going to be online, but I'm here. :)

On a happier note--I have three cards! Thank you, [info]ningyouhime, [info]nevskaya (Sam/Harry!), and [info]ashism (a card from England! Woo!)! They are proudly displayed on the top of my television, which is the largest flat surface in the apartment (aside from the dining room table).

I have cards for everyone who signed up for one from me, but I still need to get them in the mail. This week, I promise. This week.

Going to make some tea and lie down.

Lemming Alert: Getting To Know You Meme (from [info]nevskaya)

(Because I want to, and because it'll be nice to read something when I get home from work tomorrow, and because I'm exhausted, and just because, copying from everyone else:)

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well, for a handful of you I know your sleeping patterns, but for a lot of you we're practically strangers! Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you :)

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes grapes."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this, please! I'm entirely too curious for my own good. Even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

Color quiz.

you are silver
#C0C0C0

Your dominant hue is green. You're logical and steadfast, focused on figuring life out and doing what makes sense. You value being trusted because you know you're taking the time to figure things out and everyone should just follow you.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is brighter than most people's. You like the idea of influencing things for the better and find hope in situations where others might give up. You're not exactly a bouncy sunshine but things in your world generally look up.
